![]() ![]() I will recommend your masterpiece to others who are also struggling with PTSD in hopes that it brings them the same peace it brought me. March (5) SlaughterHouse-Five chpater 10- Poo-Tee-Weet Slaughter House-Five chapter 8/ Slaughter House, o. I knew then that I wasn't just holding a book in my hands but instead, a masterpiece. It had been the answer I was searching for all these years. The answer the Tralfamadorians gave Billy was perfect. The very first thing he asked them was, "Why me?" Something that I had asked myself over and over throughout the years. That was when Billy Pilgrim first visits Tralfamador. It made me feel normal.Īnother part of the novel made me love it even more. You didn't blame me for looking back and when you said that it was the human thing to do it made me feel accepted. Those words were as if you were speaking to me directly. In Kurt Vonneguts Slaughterhouse-Five, we see how the use of motifs is used to demonstrate the devastating effect that the war has. When you spoke about Lot's wife looking back and how you didn't blame her because it was the human thing to do, I felt like you understood. Your novel gave me comfort and a deeper understanding of PTSD. I had always had these poems in me but was always unable to put them into words. I hadn't been able to write about it until I read your novel. I learned that on Tralfamadore.I would like to personally thank you because after I read Slaughterhouse Five I was able to write three poems regarding my traumatic experience. As Billy Pilgrim himself says near the end:Įverything is all right, and everybody has to do exactly what he does. ![]() One of the main effects of war, after all, is that people are discouraged from being characters.’ It is not really concerned with what happens, more why. We know all about Billy Pilgrim, his war experience, his plane crash, his extra-planetary captivity, his death, and there are no other real, fully fleshed out characters in the book: ‘There are almost no characters in this story, and almost no dramatic confrontations, because most of the people in it are so sick and so much the listless playthings of enormous forces. In fact, we are even told the final word (Poo-tee-weet). Last Sentence explained: This is unusual as we are told at the beginning of the book how it ends. Last Sentence: One bird said to Billy Pilgrim, ‘Poo-tee-weet?‘ This is definitely one of those books i can see myself reading over and over. Take it moment by moment, and you will find that we are all, as I’ve said before, bugs in amber. It does not lend itself to warnings or explanations. She and Billy develop an intimate relationship and they have a child. Montana Wildhack: A beautiful young model who is abducted and placed alongside Billy in the zoo on Tralfamadore. I am a Tralfamadorian, seeing all time as you might see a stretch of the Rocky Mountains. In Slaughterhouse Five, they reveal that the universe will be accidentally destroyed by one of their test pilots, and there is nothing they can do about it. which is explained by the Tralfamadorians in the middle of the book: #SLAUGHTERHOUSE 5 POO TEE WEET FREE#One of the main themes is free will/fate etc. It follows Billy Pilgrim as he becomes ‘unstuck in time’, experiencing his life out of sequence, form the war in Germany where he lives through the Dresden bombing, to his capture on the planet Tralfamadore, to his post-war life as a succesful optometrist and ultimately to his inevitable and unavoidable death. Kind of similar to Catch-22 (both hyphenated titles, both incredibly funny in places) it truly is a remarkable piece of work which is a joy to read right from the start. Inspired by the firebombing of Dresden in 1945 (which Vonnegut himself witnessed) this is an exemplary anti-war novel. If his other books are half as good as this I’ll definitely be reading some more. ![]() I can’t believe I haven’t read any Vonnegut up until now. First Sentence: All this happened, more or less.Īll this is brilliant, more or less. ![]()
